Andrew
James, chief executive of the Welsh Black Cattle Society, is predicting
a "wonderful opportunity" for buyers when the society's next pedigree
cattle sale is held at Dolgellau on
Tuesday, November 4.
No
fewer than 134 animals are entered, including 44 in-calf heifers
and a few cows with calves at heel, together with 82 maiden/yearling
heifers and eight bulls.
The
cattle are fowarded from 32 differed farmers over an area extending
from mid and north Wales and as far as Hereford .
"A
wide variety of genetic pool will be offered at the sale and, coming
as it does after the success of the Llandovery sale on October 16,
this promises to be an exciting time for both vendors and the WBCS,"
says Mr James.
"Llandovery
was a wonderful sale and clearly reflected the fact that people
are prepared to pay for quality cattle with the avergae price paid
for the 81 animals sold reaching 947 guineas apiece. It was a good
average and gives us an idea of what to expect at Dolgellau. With
the variety of cattle entered and a wide genetic base it will be
a wonderful opportunity for those purchasing cattle."
Dolgellau
Market is the venue for the sale with Farmers Marts (R G Jones)
Ltd as
auctioneers.
The
pre-sale show starts at 9am prompt on November 4 and the sale itself
will get
underway
at 11.30am.
Judging
in the pre-sale show will be two loyal WBCS members, notably including
retired
cattle
breeder Geraint Wynne, of Meifod Uchaf, Dyffryn Ardudwy, near Harlech,
whose Ardudwy herd was established in 1943 and went under the hammer
12 months to the day at the same sale in Dolgellau at which he will
be the judge this year.
Assistant
judge will be Dylan Jones, Lluest Wen, Comins Coch, Machynlleth,
Powys,
whose
Lluest herd of pedigree, organic Welsh Blacks was establishing in
the year 2000.
Sponsoring
the sale is Tithebarn Ltd, c/o the company's regional manager Mr
Rheinallt Williams, and £150 worth of Tithebarn vouchers will
be presented to the vendors and purchasers of the highest priced
bull, female and maiden heifer.
