Yesterday's
(Saturday) re-arranged Welsh Black Cattle Society pedigree sale
at Abergavenny was a great success for all involved.
Leading
the trade was the Champion Female at the pre-sale show, Radnor Myfi
16 th , a 3 year-old in-calf heifer which sold for 1,250gns to Miss
Helen Fairclough, Aberithon, Newbridge in Wye, Powys.
Bred and
sold by Messes R&L Edwards, Foesidoes, Cascob, Presteigne in
Powys, the Champion Female also won the Russel Smith Memorial Cup.
The highest
priced cow with calf at heel was Dyfnant Menna which sold for 980gns.
The 5 ½ year-old cow with her heifer calf Dyfnant Menna
7 th - was bred and sold by Mr D Glyn Thomas, Aberdyfnant, Llanddeusant,
Llangadog in Carmarthenshire. Also in the past month the cow has
been served, and the potential package of three was bought by Messrs
HJM & B Price, Bailey Gwern, Crai, Sennybridge near Brecon.
At 1,000gns,
Garth Uchaf Alma 59 th , a 2 ½ year-old in-calf heifer was
bred and sold by Messers GE & SM Williams, Garth Uchaf Farm,
Pentyrch, Cardiff . The heifer was bought by Ronnie Griffiths, Nanty,
Pantmawr, Llanidloes in Powys. In total Messrs Williams sold four
in-calf heifers averaging 863gns/head.
Alltgoch
Ruth 53 rd was sold for 970gns to Messrs AB Stinchcomb, Graig y
Cwm, Llanellyn near Abergavenny. The 2 ½ year-old in-calf
heifer was bred and sold by David Morgan, Alltgoch, Talybont in
Ceredigion, one of four in-calf heifers he sold averaging 708gns/head.
The Champion
Maiden Heifer was Frongaled Lilwen 2 nd , which was sold for 1,050gns
by Ms Emily Evans, Tynshettin, Llanwddyn, Oswestry. The heifer was
bought by Darren Woodfall, c/o Cilwrgi Farm near Pontypool in Gwent.
The Reserve
Champion Maiden Heifer was Crymlyn Agnes, which was bred and sold
by Mrs Christine Carberry, Maple Crest, New Inn, Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire.
The prize winning heifer was bought for 820gns by Miss Helen Fairclough.
The Champion
Bull was Frampton Adam. The 19 month-old bull had a daily live weight
gain of 1.33kg and was bred by Mr MF & Mrs EE Long of Great
Frampton Farm, Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan.
It was
a great sale on which to end the 2007 pedigree sale season and again
confirms the demand the Society is experiencing with enquiries for
hardy, native beef cattle, said WBCS Chief Executive, Andrew James.

(up 150gns/head
on 2006 sale where 30 females were sold.
