At present 267
breeders are participating in the herd health scheme as members
of the PCHS, testing for Johne’s disease and some are
also testing for some of the other diseases ( BVD, IBR, &
Leptospirosis ).
The number of herds
which have achieved certified status or a clear herd test
for the various diseases are as follows:
Welsh Black herds of 'Elite'
health status
These herds have achieved certification, under a licensed
cattle health scheme, of freedom from Johne’s disease,
BVD, IBR, and Leptospirosis.
16 herds of ‘elite
health status'
Welsh Black
herds certified free of disease under a licensed cattle health
scheme.

herds accredited monitored free of Johne's disease.
47
herds accredited free of BVD.

herds accredited free of IBR.
23 herds accredited
free of Leptospirosis.
Welsh Black
herds successfully screened for disease under a licensed cattle
health scheme.
These herds have had
a clear herd test on the path to certification, but are not
yet certified free.
