QUALITY SELLS AT LLANDOVERY SALE

 

Buyers came from as farm as Cornwall and Leicestershire for today's (Friday May 25) Welsh Black Cattle Society 's (WBCS) Pedigree Summer Sale at Llandovery.

Heading the sale was Penwernhir Tank, Champion Bull in the pre-sale show. The bull, sold by Mr D E Rowbotham, Penwernhir, Pontrhydfendigaid, Ceredigion was bought by Chris Lloyd of Charlies Stores – which are in Aberystwyth, Newtown and Welshpool – for 2,400gns.

The Reserve Champion Bull was Gorse James, sold for 1,200gns by Mr & Mrs Dai Jones, Berthlwyd, Llanilar, Aberystwyth to William Davies, Brynglas, Ponterwyd, Ceredigion,

Castell Seren 234th was named as Champion Female. Sold by Gareth & Jane Davies, Maes-y-Castell, Taliaris, Llandeilo, she was bought by Ian Douglas, Longoaks Farm, Penmaen, Gower for 1,100gns.

Mr and Mrs Davies also sold the Reserve Champion Female, Castell Seren 229 th . She was bought by Glyn Thomas, Aberdyfnant, Llanddeusant, Llangadog for 1,650gns.

Selling at 780gns, the Champion Maiden Heifer Gwarcwm Cati 4 th . Owned by Mr D Huw Jones, Lletty Cynnes, Bow Street , Aberystwyth she was sold to Messrs Davies, Blaengwenllan, Llandysul.

While, the Reserve Champion Maiden heifer was Meadowsweet Eirian 2 nd , owned by Peter & Tanya Bowen, Meadowsweet, Treharris, Mid Glamorgan.

The Highest Priced Female title was jointly won by Castell Seren 229 th , and Castell Fanny 142 nd , both selling for 1,650gns, the latter to Richard Lander, Cwmyrynys Isaf, Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire. Both females were sold by Gareth and Jane Davies, Maes-y-Castell, Taliaris, Llandeilo whose Castell Herd was established in 1946.

The couple also sold Castell Seren 238 th for 1,450gns to Gwynfryn and Marian Phillips, Dancoed, Cwm Gwaun, Fishguard.

It was a good day for the Davies' who sold six in calf heifers averaging 1,333gns a head, three of which were bought by Ian Douglas, Longoaks Farm, Penmaen, Gower who bought six females in total.

Also among the higher prices was Neuadd Caran Ddu 317 th , which fetched 1,250gns. Sold by Mr D William Jenkins, Neuadd-yr-Ynys, Taliesin, Machynlleth, the animal was bought by Messrs Morgan, Alltgoch, Talybont, Ceredigion who also bought a heifer from Mr Jenkins for 950gns.

Byrsgaga Addawol 42 nd , a first prize maiden heifer from Rowland Rees, Bysgaga, Bow Street , Aberystwyth was sold for 1,100gns to Lynn and Bryn Jones, Pia Bach, Brynamman Uchaf, Carmarthenshire.

While the 14 month old Gwarcwm Eirliw 13 th from Huw Jones, Lletty Cynnes, Bow Street , was the highest priced yearling, and was bought by Messrs Morgan, Alltgoch, Talybont.

“We had an excellent sale,” said WBCS Chief Executive, Andrew James.

“Indeed the number of enquiries the Society is receiving for pedigree Welsh Black breeding animals is superseding supply – the future looking exceedingly good.”
