5 July 2004
Welsh Black Cattle eyes were focused on the rings at the
Royal Show on Wednesday (July 7) and the judging of the NatWest
Burke Interbreed Cattle Championship trophies.
Wales' native cattle breed clinched the prestigious beef title
in 2000 at the event, which is held at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.
Speaking from Stoneleigh, Mr James said, “It's been a great
competition with good spirits down the cattle lines. We are now
looking forward to the Interbreed competitions.”
The judging in the Welsh Black classes has been completed with
15 animals from five exhibitors vying for the prizes.
The three and a half year-old bull, SEISIOG CYMRO 61st bred by
Goro9nwy Jones of Llanrwst and exhibited by Gwynfryn and Marian
Phillips of Abergwaun took the Supreme Champion title.
He and the Champion Female, CAERYNWCH GLADYS 43rd who was also
the Reserve Supreme Champion, will represent the breed in the Interbreed
Competition for best beef pair on Wednesday afternoon.
