January 2006
The Welsh Black Cattle Society will continue
the New Year celebrations with the Society's 50th Winter Sale at
Dolgellau.
A total 0f 105 pedigree breeding animals have
been entered for the sale at Dolgellau Market on January 17, 2006.
The pre-sale show starts at 9am and will be followed
by the sale at 11.30am.
WBCS President and local farmer, Evan Tudor, will
welcome exhibitors and buyers to this special sale at what is often
referred to as the ‘Capital of the Welsh Blacks'.
The consignment includes 68 females – 47
of which are maiden heifers – and 37 bulls, the majority of
which have been declared free of Johne's disease, or are certified
monitored for the disease.
The entries are drawn from 38 different vendors,
and three farmers are forwarding five organic Welsh Blacks.
The sale offers a mixture of varied bloodlines
and is an excellent opportunity to buy some top genetics within
the breed, said WBCS Chief Executive, Andrew James.
“The day promises to be an exciting one as so
many new members have joined the Society during 2005,” said Mr James.
“The next Society sale for pedigree breeding stock
won't be until May; therefore any member interested should certainly
make a note in their diary.”
