Winning Debut for Welsh Black Iwrch Ann 2nd
Experience doesn’t automatically mean success as Welsh Black heifer Iwrch Ann 2nd demonstrated when she took top honours for the breed at the Anglesey Show - her first outing in a show ring.

The Gwalchmai showground was the venue for the three year-old in-calf heifer’s debut, and she didn’t disappoint, winning both the Welsh Black overall and female championships. Bred by Alun Vaughan of Nebo, Llanrwst and exhibited by father and son team Michael and Sion Wyn Jones of Penisarwaen, Caernarfon, her sire is Neuadd Hebog 101st and her dam Iwrch Ann.

Builder and smallholder, Michael Wyn Jones established his Deiniolen herd in 1978 and has regularly won prizes with his cattle, including his home-bred bull Deiniolen Dewi which won Bull of the Year in 1995.

“It was a very good show with 23 Welsh Blacks exhibited,” said Welsh Black Cattle Society chief executive, Andrew James.

“It was also good to see those who have travelled long distances to the show being rewarded, such as Gareth James who made the journey up from Haverfordwest and who won the best group of three.”
