The Welsh Black Cattle Society (WBCS) will mark the end
of its centenary year celebrations in rousing style with a special
concert.
Hosted by WBCS President and television personality, Dai Jones
MBE, ARAgS, the evening concert on Friday, May 13th, will follow
an open day at Mr Jones’ farm at Llanilar near Aberystwyth.
The Hybu Cig Cymru / Meat Promotion Wales sponsored open day starts
at Berthlwyd Farm at 2pm, where Society members will be able to
tour the farm and attend the auction of an in-calf pedigree Welsh
Black heifer kindly given by Dai and Olwen Jones with the proceeds
going to the WBCS. Mrs Jones is also arranging a traditional Welsh
afternoon tea for the many visitors expected to attend.
The heifer is one of several items that will go under the hammer
including a signed print of a Welsh Black bull donated by Sir Kyffin
Williams.
“It promises to be a very interesting and enjoyable farm
visit,” said Andrew James, WBCS Chief Executive.
“Viewing of the pedigree Welsh Black Nantrhys herd will obviously
be a major attraction, as will the opportunity to discuss with HCC
representatives issues relating to herd health schemes and performance
recording project.”
Prys Morgan, Industry Development Manager for HCC, said, “We
are extremely proud to be able to sponsor this important event in
the centenary year calendar of the Welsh Black Cattle Society.
“HCC staff will be on hand throughout the day to give updates
on activities and to provide advice on future developments.”
That evening the proceedings move to Llanilar Chapel, for a traditional
bi-lingual concert hosted by Dai Jones. The evening’s President
will be local farmer, Dai Davies, who formerly kept the Coedllys
herd, and the concert starts at 7pm.
“Entertainment will be provided by Sharon Evans of Anglesey,
and Colin Jones and Singers from Dolgellau – under the able
leadership of Dai Jones,” said Mr James.
The following day (May 14), at the Marine Hotel in Aberystwyth,
the Society will hold its Annual General Meeting followed by the
Annual Dinner.
“It seems ironic that the man who was honoured during the
last Royal Welsh Show with the Sir Bryner Jones Award – namely
our President Dai Jones – at the beginning of the Society’s
centenary celebration should also be the same individual to conclude
the wonderful year with an action packed weekend for Welsh Black
breeders and their families,” added Mr James.
