Welsh Black Cattle head for Royal Shows
Welsh Black Cattle exhibitors are busy preparing for two major events next week – the Royal Welsh Agricultural Winter Fair and the Royal Smithfield Show.

First to be held is the Winter Fair , which will take place at the Royal Welsh Showground, Llanelwedd, Builth Wells on Monday and Tuesday (November 29 & 30) .

It is the last major event for the Welsh Black Cattle Society during its centenary year, and 11 exhibitors are forwarding a total of 20 registered pedigree Welsh Black steers.

While most are forwarding single entries, five members will enter a second animal, with Will and Meinir Davies of Brynglas, Ponterwyd, Aberystwyth, bringing five home-bred Coedllys steers to the Winter Fair.

The Davies' are regular exhibitors at the event, and last year produced the top junior Welsh Black steer which was also the Reserve Champion steer in the Welsh Black classes.

With only a day separating the two events, the bi-annual Royal Smithfield Show starts its four day run at London's Earl's Court on December 2nd .

“As this is the same week as the Winter Fair, the stock and farmers have been divided where to go,” explained Welsh Black Cattle Society Chief Executive, Andrew James.

“Four pure bred steers forwarded by three members will represent the Society at Smithfield.

“Again the Society has secured £500 worth of sponsorship from Welsh Black breeder Robinson Farms (Carbrooke) Ltd of Norfolk. The money will be divided equally between each exhibit as a reward for attending this premier event.”
